DENTAL CONSULTANT DATA: NICE TO MEET YOU
When you talk to people about dentistry, the first thing they often think of is the clinical aspects of it. They think of the drill or “getting a shot” and unfortunately, most don’t like going. People often compare going to the dentist with something bad and uncomfortable. It is not uncommon to hear statements like “I would rather go to the dentist than do …” Most laugh when hearing these types of things but behind all the laughter, there is a bigger issue. Fear and untrust. As a Dental Consultant, I want to be aware of this so I can better serve the offices that hire me to help them.
I got to thinking about this and realized that we need to emphasize the importance of being authentic in our industry. We must do our part in changing how the public looks at our industry. I believe we need to build more trust and authenticity is key to building trust with others. When we are authentic, we show that we are genuine, honest, and transparent. From here, others start to feel more comfortable around us and are more likely to trust us.
AUTHENTICITY IN OUR INDUSTRY
As a Dental Consultant, I thought about some in the industry that I felt were authentic. People who seem to always be themselves every time you see them no matter the occasion. People who are comfortable in their skin and are always willing to really show you who they are and try to foster meaningful connections. When I made this list, this was someone that entered my mind immediately.
WHO MADE THIS DENTAL CONSULTANTS LIST?
I would like to introduce you to Curtis Marshall, Principal Product Manager at Dental Intelligence. Anyone who meets Curtis will tell you how pleasant and down-to-earth this guy is. I decided to interview Curtis and he had some interesting things to say about being authentic and applying this principle to business. Check it out.
WHAT DID I LEARN?
1) Foster Meaningful Connections
Authenticity helps us connect with others on a deeper level. When we are real and vulnerable, we create space for others to be real and vulnerable as well.
2) Don’t Ring The Cash Register
When you are just trying to “make a buck” people see right through you. See the beauty in having more meaningful and fulfilling relationships in the industry. This not only means with each other, but with our patients.
3) Adopt The Attitude of “Help Change Lives”
Curtis said he helps doctors change lives. He said he eats, drinks, sleeps, and dreams of dental. Now that is someone we need in the industry!
There were so many pearls I took away from my conversation with Curtis Marshall. It was so refreshing to talk with someone who seems to get it. Someone who sees the importance of building strong relationships, being authentic, and how this strengthens our industry as a whole.
We may not be able to change everyone who is afraid and does not trust the dentist. We can however change some if we show our vulnerable side, our human side. If we are authentic, real, and transparent. When people see this, they WILL want to do business with us. Patients may start to feel more comfortable and have more to say about the office besides “I hate going to the dentist.” Thanks for the insight, my friend.
